Update From Roxey Ballet

Dear Roxey Ballet Friends, Patrons, Students, Volunteers, Dancers, and Community Partners:

We are sending you our best wishes for continued good health, strength, optimism, and human connections during this difficult time of uncertainty.

While we understand the situation is fluid, changing on a daily basis, we want to emphasize our belief in the human condition, personal connections and will maintain communication with you as we progress. First and foremost, Thank you for staying connected through social media, messages, emails, and online classes.

Melissa Roxey has been in constant contact with students and families. Most all of our classes at the Mill Ballet School have continued via Zoom. In some instances we combined levels and, in order to maintain our well rounded education of the entire dancer “being”, we have added new classes such as Dance History, Conditioning, Body Blast and Nutrition. Faculty and students have adjusted positively to the learning curve of remote instruction understanding how to be considerate of space and settings, learning how to make a Marley floor from a shower pan liner, making sure the dancer is visible for the camera, and in some instances, patiently waiting for faster internet connections. Our strength of providing personal connections with our dance family continues as we still apply corrections, feedback, and the knowledge that your dance space is what you make of it.

The Mill Ballet School is committed to empowering each student and make distance learning a positive experience in which students will be instructed by guest teachers from a far.

The silver lining is new, positive experiences are occurring. We allow students the opportunity to zoom into other forms of dance, try new classes, and offer the older students who want to delve into teaching to zoom into the younger classes. Maintaining human connection and interaction is paramount, so at this time we are continuing our summer intensives schedule which begins in late June.

Currently we live in the moment, as daily new information is absorbed. We have delayed the upcoming performances of the Pied Piper of Hamlin and Carnival of the Animals and will provide new dates as soon as it is secured. The nature of our work relies on social connections and interactions and Roxey Ballet plans on returning to a full performance season this Fall.

Like most dance organizations, this pandemic has left us financially vulnerable. As always, we are thankful for your support, thoughts, and feedback. We are here to serve our community, provide comfort and relief during difficult times, and give you hope. If you are able to make a donation or register for Summer Dance 2020 at this time, we encourage you to support the ballet so we may continue to inspire generations for many years to come.

Love and thanks

Mark & Melissa Roxey
