Continuing its 20th Anniversary Season, on Friday, March 27, 7pm, Roxey Ballet presents the world premier of Fall, a dance/music collaboration inspired by Leo Buscaglia’s book Fall of Freddie the Leaf, and, on May 2 at 2pm and 7pm, its beloved Jungle Book ballet Mowgli and heel-kicking, boot-stomping Buffalo Bill’s Saloon. Performances will be held at the beautiful Kendall Hall Theater at The College of New Jersey, in Ewing. Roxey Ballet’s March 27 world premier dance/music collaboration Fall, inspired by best-selling author Leo Buscaglia’s The Fall of Freddie the Leaf, is an exploration of music and movement that examines the natural, interconnected circle of life. Choreographed for Roxey Ballet company members by Founder and Artistic Director Mark Roxey, with a newly-commissioned score by composer Robert Maggio, Fall also features video art and live music performed by violinist Ruotao Mao and cellist Thomas Kraines. Fall was funded by a generous grant from New Music USA. Included in the March 27 program is three short new works: a newly commissioned ballet by Roxey Ballet company choreographer Giovanni Ravelo and two dances performed by 30 of Roxey Ballet's esteemed trainees: Cygnets Do Grow Up and Turning to Stone. Don’t miss this action-packed evening of beautiful music, dancers, and dance, a fabulous program that will appeal to audiences of all ages. Fall and three new works including Cygnets Do Grow Up and Turning to Stone will be performed Friday, March 27, at 7pm. Tickets range from $24-$50 and may be purchased at a Season Pass discount with Roxey Ballet’s May 2 performance of Mowgli. See details, below. On May 2, at 2pm and 7pm, Roxey Ballet will bring its 20th Anniversary Season to a close with its annual Children’s Classic Stories program, including the beloved jungle ballet Mowgli based on Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book, and the world premier of Buffalo Bill’s Saloon. A magical ballet for children of all ages, Mowgli tells through dance the exciting story of Man Cub Mowgli's love of the jungle and ultimate return to the Man Village. Through an exceptional combination of professional dancers, trainees, and students of the Mill Ballet School, Mowgli will transport young and old to the jungle of India and beyond. Mowgli features award-winning original music by Milan Svoboda, original choreography by creator and artistic director Mark Roxey, original costumes by Alicia Worden, and lavish sets. Included in the Children’s Classic Stories program on May 2 will be Roxey Ballet’s world premier of Buffalo Bill’s Saloon, guaranteed to transport audiences to the Wild West of country line dance and the "simple" life. The classic paring of Richard Jarboe's music and Mark Roxey's original choreography will inspire kids and grownups alike to cheer, clap, and stomp to the rhythm of this feel-good country ballet! Both dances will be performed Saturday, May 2, at 2pm and 7pm. Tickets range from $24-$50 and may be purchased at a Season Pass discount with Roxey Ballet’s March 27 performance of Fall and three new works. See details, below.
