Rai Garcia was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. He started ballet at the age of 12 at Le Studio with Chip and Phillip Fuller in Pasadena, California. Between 2006-2009, Rai attended and graduated from the Los Angeles County School for the Arts in California with a focus in Dance. The Director was Gina Buntz and faculty included: Don Martin, Nancy Doede, Edward Kouzmith, Vera Ninkovic, Fionna Lummis, Julie Shulman, Wendy Lawson, and Anthony Johnson. During his busy academic schedule he also managed to take modern and ballet classes at Everybody Dance (Gabriella Foundation) landing a lead role in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory; Commonwealth Ballet with director Chip Morris; Ballet Rox with Tony Williams, The Colburn School with Glen Eddy and Leslie Carothers, and Ballet Magique with choreographer Anthony Johnson. Rai also entered dance competitions and placed as semi-finalist for Spotlight Awards and semi-finalist at the YAGP in San Diego. Prior to attending college, he went to the Boston Ballet summer intensive in 2009 at Boston Ballet (Director Christopher Herd, Parren Ballard, Franciso Martinez) on a full scholarship. Between 2009-2013, Rai received a 4-year Dance Merit Scholarship, Recipient honor award from Katherine and David Scott Sloan to The Boston Conservatory with director Cathy Young, Yasuko Tokunaga.
Rai’s training includes different dance ensembles from contemporary and ballet. In 2013, he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Dance from Boston Conservatory. This is his first season with Roxey Ballet.
